On Saturday, July 26, Community Voices Heard Power hosted its re-invigorated Pie for the People to help raise funds and bring the CVH Power community together to have fun. People submitted pies to be judged by three celebrity judges, but pie contestants also battled for the prestigious People for the People award, which was voted on by all the attendees. CVH Power raised over $8,000 and the event, held at the Riverside Church, had about 50 people come out. While the children were getting their face painted, friends and family of the CVHP family enjoyed the pies that were submitted. About 30 pies were submitted for the contest and close to 10 professional companies donated pies or cupcakes.
The fundraiser featured appearances by our celebrity hosts Héctor J. Figueroa, the current President of 32BJ Service Employees International Union; Paul Getsos who serves as the National Coordinator of the People’s Climate March, building a national multi-sector movement working against climate change; and Sakyiwa Adzenyah. In addition, Manhattan Borough President, Gale Brewer New York City Public Advocate Letitia James stopped by to support the event. The Borough President spoke briefly saying “I applaud the work this organization does.” It was a great event and a good time had by all.
